The Betty Driver Story

Documentary charting the life and career of one of the nation's most cherished actresses. Known to millions as Betty from Coronation Street, Betty Driver has been in showbusiness since the 1930s. She talks about her decades in the industry, how her marriage ended in disaster and how injury once threatened to finish her career for good. Betty also reveals how she originally auditioned for the role of Hilda Ogden before appearing on the Street for the first time in 1969. More than 40 years on, the programme follows her as she films her latest scenes. Featuring contributions from Corrie colleagues including William Roache, Julie Goodyear, Helen Worth, Sue Nicholls, Antony Cotton, and Bill Kenwright. Narrated by Ian McKellen.
